Today in history we discuss the distribution of land through the Homestead Act. The Civil war must not have been as violent as depicted if people in 1862 and afterwards are fussing over land so much.  Lots of good normal activity occurred between the years 1861-1865.

And so today in history during a rising of Providence, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Homestead Act on May 20, 1862.  The Homestead Act was designed to spur Western migration, the Homestead Act culminated a twenty-year battle which started in 1842  to distribute public lands to citizens willing to farm.  To get to the Homestead Act took negotiating with Native Americans, but even still it was not easy for Homesteaders as you will see in our National Parks Video.

The Homestead Act  act provided settlers with 160 acres of surveyed public land after payment of a filing fee and five years of continuous residence.

Many miracles and acts of Judgment after the first miracle settlement was founded in the United States made it possible for Natives. to live peacefully with the new settlers and much voluntary integration took place though not much is written about it.  When major problems arose between settlers and Natives especially over land,  the Judgment of God made sure to settle all debts on both sides.

When things have gotten out of hand over land,  God’s Holy Spirit has always made sure that the white man respected the native and vice versa.   In good times, the Natives were as much entitled to own their own land as anyone else.

On many occasion natives were offered their own land in deed and title. Some took offense to this.  But  it was the new way of doing things. Many refused and simply picked up and moved away.  On some occasions fighting broke out over matters of land.

With regards to respect, Reservations were finally set aside almost forced so Natives who felt exploited had something to call their own, but many still lived off the Reservation. Many Natives or people with Native blood own land off the reservation.

Today Millions of Natives and mixed Natives live peacefully and safely across the United States of America.  Many are home owners and not only do they buy homes off of the reservations they sell them to.

And thanks to. organizational determination of Homesteading  Between 1860 and 1880, cattle in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Dakota increased from 130,000 to 4.5 million.
